SEO content strategy

The local SEO strategy most small businesses are never shown

A website is not a brochure. It is the hub of a system that gets you found, proves you are worth trusting and turns a search into a quote request. Here is exactly how that system works, and why it is built into every site we make.

The whole system

The argument

SEO is a build decision, not an add-on

Most small businesses are sold a website and then, six months later, sold SEO. The two are treated as separate purchases by separate suppliers, which is why so many sites are rebuilt beautifully and then rank for nothing but the company name.

That split does not survive contact with how search actually works. Rankings come from structure: having a page that deserves to rank for each thing you do, in each place you do it, with enough proof attached that a real person picks up the phone. Structure is a design decision, and it has to be made while the site is being built.

So we do not sell SEO as an add-on. We build the structure in, wire review collection into the moment a job finishes, and train you to keep publishing with AI so the coverage grows every month. This page is the whole strategy, written out. You are welcome to take it and run it yourself.

The strategy

Eight pillars, and the website is the hub of all of them

Tap any pillar for the detail. This is the complete strategy we run for clients, written out. You are welcome to take it and run it yourself.

Timeline

What happens, and roughly when

Local search rewards consistency more than intensity. This is a realistic shape rather than a promise.

  1. 01

    Weeks 1-3

Build and launch. Structure, service pages, forms, schema, Google Business Profile and analytics all live from day one.

  2. 02

    Weeks 4-8

Location pages and pre-quote content go up. Review requests start firing after every job. Profile activity begins.

  3. 03

    Months 3-6

Local rankings typically start moving. Review count compounds. Coverage widens town by town.

  4. 04

    Months 6-12

The content library and review base become genuinely hard for a competitor to catch, because both took real time to build.

What to avoid

Eight ways small businesses waste money on SEO

Every one of these is something we have been asked to undo for a client who paid someone else to do it.

Buying SEO separately

Structure is a build decision. Bolting SEO on afterwards usually means paying twice for something that should have been designed in.

One page for everything

A services page listing eight jobs in two sentences each ranks for none of them and converts nobody.

Doorway location pages

Fifty pages with the town name swapped is a pattern Google has demoted for years. It is worse than having no location pages.

Waiting to ask for reviews

Ask at completion, not three weeks later by email. The gap between finishing and asking is where reviews are lost.

Gating reviews

Filtering unhappy customers away from the review link breaks Google policy and risks the whole listing. Never do it.

Measuring traffic

Sessions and impressions are not the goal. Count quote requests and calls, or you will optimise for the wrong thing.

Publishing once and stopping

A site that has not changed since launch slowly slides. Coverage has to keep widening, which is why the training matters.

Renting your own website

Monthly-fee builder sites mean you never own the asset you are pouring content and links into. Everything stops when you stop paying.

FAQ

Questions about the strategy

What is included, how long it takes and what happens if you leave.

It is genuinely included. The structure, service pages, schema, Google Business Profile setup and review optimisation all ship with the website from £1,295. Complete adds service and location pages. There is no compulsory monthly SEO fee. The SEO and Content plan at £249 a month is for ongoing new pages and articles, not for unlocking what you already bought.
Google Business Profile improvements often show within a few weeks. Local organic rankings typically start moving between eight and twelve weeks, and keep improving as content and reviews build. Anyone promising page one in thirty days is either targeting searches nobody makes or is about to do something that will cost you the listing.
No, but the pages are far better if you contribute the raw material: real jobs, real prices, real photos. The AI training exists so that producing content stops depending on us. Most clients end up writing far more than they expected, because the hard part was never typing, it was knowing what to say.
Then you compete where they are weak rather than head-on. Usually that means the specific services and outlying towns they have not covered, and a much faster review flow. Broad head terms in a crowded market take time, but a page about a specific job in a specific town is winnable within months.
Google penalises unhelpful content, not AI-assisted content. Their published guidance is clear that the production method is not the issue. What gets penalised is thin, duplicated, unreviewed pages at scale. Everything we generate is grounded in your real services, prices and areas, and reviewed by a human before it goes live.
Only as many as you can make genuinely different. If you can talk about real jobs, real property types and real reviews in a town, it deserves a page. If all you can say is the name, it does not. Ten strong location pages will always beat forty thin ones.
For most trades, both is the right answer at first. Lead platforms give you volume immediately while your own visibility builds, but you pay per lead and share it with competitors. The point of the strategy on this page is shifting the balance over time towards leads that cost you nothing per enquiry.
You keep everything. The code, the domain, the hosting account, the content, the Google Business Profile and the prompt library are all yours, and we hand over access. Nothing switches off, because nothing was ever rented to you.
